Prosperity’s wellness services combine with nutrition counseling, psychological, psychiatric therapies and experiential therapies bring a truly integrative and collaborative approach to healing.

Prosperity offers highly beneficial integrative and holistic wellness services including; acupuncture, yoga, tai chi, essential oils, and meditation. These are ancient forms of healing that are still beneficial today for bringing peace and healing. Evidence-based research now shows that these modalities can affect physiological responses (decrease in stress hormones, relaxation of muscles, lower heart rate, drop in blood pressure) and general psychological health and well-being.

Massive studies continue to be conducted on the benefits, including how those living with eating disorders may benefit. At Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness Center, we are committed to teaching these critical skills for calming the nervous system and connecting with one’s body. Results suggest that Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) may positively affect long-term recovery, reducing relapse, and potentially shortening treatment.

Integral Hatha Yoga

Integral Hatha Yoga is a complete science that cultivates and maintains the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of the individual. The non-competitive approach and meditative exploration in Integral Yoga create an inner awareness allowing the student to come in touch with deeper and more subtle aspects of their being. Each class will incorporate postures, deep relaxation, breathing practices and meditation that result in a profound experience of peace and well-being.

Students of any age and condition are encouraged to explore each posture at their own pace. By balancing effort and surrender, the practitioner is able to discover the optimal flow of energy to achieve greater flexibility, strength, poise and mental focus.

The Integral Yoga system of Hatha Yoga is utilized by Dr. Dean Ornish in his book, Dr. Dean Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease and Narmala Herzia know as Dr. Yoga. She is the Integral Yoga Cardiac specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center and president of the United Yoga Council.

Essential Oils

Each oil provides the living essence of its source, gently distilled from plants that are nurtured and carefully harvested throughout the world. A beautiful palate of botanical energies, they can be used individually or blended for personalized essential oil therapies.

Essential oils are used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends in one of three methods: Aromatically, Topically and Internally

Group Meditation Instruction

Group Meditation Instruction and practice encourages the practice and promotes a sense of inter relatedness. Meditation is a vital component for a healthy, balanced life. Everyone has the ability to meditate, and there are many ways to meditate from mindfulness to guided imagery. It is important to create a practice that meets your particular needs, interests, and beliefs. In our six-week class, you will be exposed to several forms and will learn the benefits of meditation including breath awareness, how meditation decreases stress hormones, and other benefits such as increased circulation, lower blood pressure, and an improved sense of well being.

Group Meditation is $20 for 30 minutes
$30 for 60 minutes

Group Acupuncture

In a Group Acupuncture setting, individuals are seated in chairs, or may choose to lie down. Needles are placed in the ears or in body points below the knee or below the elbow. Needles remain for 30 minutes as participants silently relax with tranquil music in an environment with others who are similarly seeking better health and peace of mind. Qigong

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice which promotes health through the practice of slow, meditative movement. The practice of Qigong can help improve strength, balance, and mental focus, and is also believed to support the immune system. The simple, gentle movements can be done sitting, standing, or even lying down, and so the benefits of Qigong are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical challenges or limitations.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a form of Qigong. Unlike Qigong, where a single movement or two is repeated, in Tai Chi individual movements are practiced in a sequence, creating a beautiful flowing dance. Like Qigong, the types of Tai Chi taught and practiced here at Prosperity are suitable for those with physical challenges and can be done while seated or lying down.

Tai Chi for Arthritis™ uses gentle, Sun-Style Tai Chi movements which are safe, easy to learn, and suitable for every fitness level. This program was developed over 30 years ago by Dr. Paul Lam, a medical doctor with rheumatoid arthritis, in conjunction with other medical doctors and Tai Chi Masters. If you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, or lupus, this course can improve your flexibility, your balance, and your outlook on life! Please note, you do not have to have an “arthritis” diagnosis to participate in this class!

Tai Chi Easy

Tai Chi Easy™ incorporates the principles of Tai Chi and Qigong into a very straightforward series of five individual movements, which are linked together to form a graceful routine. It is a highly accessible form of Tai Chi. Each of the individual movements can be done by themselves, and the routine, or “form,” can be enjoyed as a complete Tai Chi practice. Tai Chi Easy™ can also serve as a great introduction to other more complex or rigorous forms of Tai Chi.

Licensed Acupuncturist

The integrative and holistic approaches of Acupuncture, Qigong and Tai Chi are offered by Sharon Crowell, L.Ac., M.Ac., Dipl.Ac., BSN.  Sharon received her Nursing Degree from George Mason University   and her Master Degree in Acupuncture from the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (now the Maryland University of Integrative Health).  She received National Certification in Acupuncture in 2000, and has been in practice ever since.  Sharon has received Master Level training in Medical Qigong from the International Institute of Medical Qigong, is a Professional Member of the National Qigong Association, a Board Member of the Peaceable Dragon Consortium of Qigong Practitioners, and has received teacher certification in various forms of Tai Chi through the Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Integral Hatha Yoga and National Yoga Alliance

Cathy’s passion in integrative and holistic therapies has been an enormous blessing to Prosperity in bringing peace and wellness. Cathy did her training at the Satchidanada Ashram in Integral Hatha Yoga.  She has been practicing yoga and teaching meditative practices to adults, youth and children in northern Virginia for the last 12 years. She integrated Integral Hatha Yoga into her teaching practice as she found it so powerful in helping people of all ages reclaim the integration of body, mind and soul.  Integral Hatha Yoga is appropriate for those with physical challenges as well as a restorative and balancing gift to address stress and anxiety issues, depression and other mental health issues.  She has experienced the non-competitive approach and meditative exploration that are unique to Integral Yoga help create an inner awareness allowing the student to come in touch with deeper and more subtle aspects of their being. Each class will incorporate postures, deep relaxation, breathing practices and meditation that result in a profound experience of peace and well-being.
